The ampersand derives from the Latin ‘et’ meaning ‘and’ and these written together in cursive eventually formed the symbol we recognise today.
Did you know the ampersand was once the 27th letter of the alphabet?
In the 1800s school children concluded the alphabet with &.
Because it would be confusing to say ‘X, Y, Z, &' they would say ‘and per se and’ meaning ‘and by itself...and’. Overtime this slurred into the word ampersand!
This Ampersand lino print is printed onto top quality St Cuthbert’s Mill Somerset Satin Soft White paper and finished off with deckled edges....perfect for metal glass frames!
Approx A4 in size • Black Ink
